So you’ve finished the blog on six advanced Power BI features and you’re now ready to add AI into finance? Let’s keep it going.
In the videos featured in this blog, Rishi Grover, Vena’s Co-Founder and Chief Solutions Architect, creates a dashboard in Power BI—the market’s leading AI-powered business intelligence solution—from scratch in 10 minutes.
After watching this tutorial, you’ll know how to:
- visualize your data
- generate instant insights and
- share these insights with your team.
Ready to create? Let’s begin.
Step 1: Explore Your Fields
Explore your dimensions—such as Currency, Entity and Period—and their metadata in your data model. These dimensions have additional parameters (some examples are Comparison Scenario Profitability, Previous Year Growth and Variance). In Power BI, these dimensions and parameters are called Fields.
As a part of the embedded configuration, your fields have pre-built calculations that are available for you to visualize.
Step 2: Select Fields, Visualizations and Filters
Select:
- the fields you want to visualize and the filters you want to drill down into to slice and dice (toggling through your fields and filters will instantly update your visualization)
- the visualization that will best help you gain insight from your data
As you choose your fields, visualizations and filters, Power BI will
- select where on your dashboard to add your visualization
- link these fields and filters to your visualization
Step 3: Drill Down, Then Slice and Dice
Now, you can start to drill down into your data, and begin slicing and dicing.
[In this tutorial, Rishi selects the Decomposition Tree visualization. This visualization lets him sort by the highest and lowest values, or slice and dice through some filters, such as by Region, City or Revenue Account.]
With your dashboard created in less than 10 minutes (we’re already ahead of schedule), and now with some real-time insights generated, why not ask some questions?
Step 4: Ask Questions (and Get Instant Visual Answers)
One valuable visualization—which Rishi adds to his dashboard—is the Q&A. This visualization lets users submit simple queries—by inputting a few keywords—to get an answer in the form of a visual that you can drill down into.
It has four core elements:
- Question box
- Auto-suggested questions
- Ability to convert the Q&A visual into a standard visual
- Ability to configure the natural language engine
You can ask questions and get answers—instantly and visually.
Step 5: Share Your Insights
With insights generated and your questions answered, you can then decide with whom to share these insights.
If you’re using Vena’s Power BI Embedded, your data security and user permission levels are already defined and applied to the embedded configuration. You can see who has editing permissions and view-only permissions.
Share these insights with your team.
Power BI Embedded
With Power BI Embedded—the market’s only end-to-end reporting and analytics solution—now directly embedded into Vena’s Complete Planning platform, you can integrate AI-informed data strategies into company-wide business intelligence, enabling instant insights at scale for you to work smarter and faster—without requiring additional Power BI licenses.
Using out-of-the-box interactive dashboards, you can turn data into real-time, actionable insights for every one of your users in their data-driven decision making. As you drill into your data, you can visualize and review your unbiased data against baselines, generate insights and make proactive decisions
