Enabled finance team to use Vena Copilot for live Q&A in executive meetings

We’re using [Vena] Copilot to pull insights that used to take hours. Eventually, asking Copilot will be as normal as sending an email. That’s where we’re headed

The Challenge: Outdated Processes Held Back Real-Time Finance

As a major telecom provider operating in a fast-changing market, MTN Ghana faced growing pressure to respond quickly to shifts in customer behavior, regulatory requirements, and currency volatility.

But the finance team’s legacy FP&A process couldn’t keep up.

The team relied heavily on manual workflows, collecting spreadsheets from various business units, consolidating data by hand, and building presentations through repeated copying and pasting.

Once reporting was finalized, they still had to reformat and resend data to MTN’s parent group, which used a different technology stack. These inefficiencies consumed valuable time for the finance team and left them little room for strategic analysis.

“There was a lot of time spent just pulling things together,” says Kwame Moloko, GM of Financial Planning & Analysis. “If anything changed last-minute, like currency assumptions or new revenue drivers, we had to go back and redo everything.”

This reactive posture left the team exposed during periods of high volatility. Leadership wanted Finance to evolve from a backward-looking function to a strategic partner that could guide the business in real time. To get there, MTN Ghana needed a flexible, integrated platform that would eliminate manual work and support future-focused decision-making.

“Our CFO defined a clear imperative: deliver the Future of Finance today,” Kwame notes.

MTN Gains Automated Workflows, Trusted Insights and Scalable AI With Vena Copilot

With Vena, MTN Ghana has been able to automate its manual FP&A workflows, integrating financial and non-financial data into a single centralized platform.

Consolidation tasks that previously took hours are now handled in minutes, freeing the finance team to focus on value-added analysis.

Vena's Excel-native interface ensured high user adoption, while Vena Copilot added a layer of intelligence that enables instant access to contextual insights during meetings and planning cycles.

MTN Ghana is taking a thoughtful, bottom-up approach to AI adoption. Early use cases have focused on real-time data retrieval and answering unexpected questions during live reviews—transforming how the team prepares and presents insights.

Kwame emphasizes the importance of building trust in AI: “We could use Copilot to make forecasts now, but adoption starts with trust. We're using it daily to embed it into our workflow, just like email.”

Vena Copilot has already helped MTN quickly retrieve data during critical meetings, saving time and boosting stakeholder confidence. As the team grows more comfortable, they plan to expand AI use into forecasting and reporting agents—laying the groundwork for broader transformation.

Kwame’s long-term vision is clear: shift from reactive reporting to strategic leadership. With automated systems in place and AI integrated into daily workflows, the team aims to move from a current state of 70–80% of the team’s time being spent on operational work, to a 60/40 strategic split. Leadership styles are also evolving as AI proposes solutions faster than ever before.
